Sunday Gleanings

Let our default be faith, not doubt; hope, and not despair; holiness, and not sin.
~From Dr. Murray's congregational prayer, July 1, 2011

Disobedience: The eating of the forbidden fruit. Only one sin. Some us see little evil in one sin, or in a hundred sins; here you see one sin cast Adam and all his children out of Paradise. God did not wait until it was repeated. It appeared a small sin. The outward action was small--only stretching out the hand and taking the inviting fruit. Some of you think little of sins that make no great noise; such as breaking the Sabbath--drinking too much ---speaking that which is false--sitting down Christless at the Lord's table. But see here, one small sin brought the whole world under the curse of God. God would rather that the whole world should perish than one sin should go unpunished.
